I tied a few that looked similar, using some chicabou sort of stacked, like with deer hair. Basically, I put a little flashabou as a tail, then about five chicabou feathers working my way up the shank toward the eye. Looks great, seems to really breath in the water, but no joy.

Back west, I'd often take a strip of rabbit fur, purple or black, tie a portion for a tail, then wind up the fly for a similar result. It was like candy for the big trout in the river I fished there, deep and super clear. Here, I've never had a bite on it.

However, in both case, I am open to the possibility that it's a matter of user error!
