I'm a student at UW-La Crosse and am looking to do some duck hunting when not doing homework. Any suggestions on some public places to try? I walked out to the Goose Island landing this evening and saw a number if hunters down there. Being that I would only have a canoe or kayak I'd like a smaller, less people area to hunt if possible. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

The duck hunters I know got skunked on the Mississippi this weekend.

Their opinion: the last time the river was high, it washed away the majority aquatic plants that attract ducks to feed in the area.

Apparently the bars were full of duck hunters come noon-time!

my dad and i got 18 in two mornings during the early teal season. i wasn't able to make opening day and he text me and said don't even bother coming down to pdc for sunday.

for public places i just hunt knobs and points along highway 35 and the van loon wilderness area on the black river. be prepared to walk A LOT and be safe. got lost and dehydrated out there 2 years ago for a few hours. but always get my woodies and sometimes a mixbag of a few others
