Saturday I convinced Matthew to go fishing with me. Swift current so we were rigged up with bird's egg sinkers, a #8 hook and a chunk of crawler. Fishing with two poles it went like this. Cast pole #1, crawler drifts into position, tap tap, and Matt reels him in. As he is reeling I cast the second pole out. The minute we get the fish off there is another fish on the second pole. I let the kid do all the catching. We caught a dozen that way in about an hour. This one is cool because you can see the bumps on the fins. Only a few like this which means they are still getting ready to spawn. No milt or eggs seen. The shorty's above are my fav but the goldens are pretty too! Kid has a blast. He got stuck in the mud and I lifted him out but his boots remained stuck. Hope to get back out one more time before Trapper Fest! Edited by user Sunday, May 11, 2014 5:00:28 PM(UTC)

I wish someone would lift me out of the mud sometimes. |

Glad your son enjoyed fishing, Mark. Do you think this will increase his interest in fishing? Has he shown interest in trout fishing? |

Time will tell David. I'm hoping more experiences like this will get him going. Just want him to have lots of fun. He lasted about an hour. Then I took him to McDonald's as a treat (mom refuses the place). |
