Nicely done JT! I presume the crappies were in close to shore, or like the sunfish still staging to spawn? Can you fillet those fast? Do you use a standard fillet knife or electric? |

Thanks Mark. No, surprisingly we caught the crappies right along side the gills. But the word was most of the crappies were up and spawning. Just happened to find the gills first and couldn't bring ourselves to move because the action was so good (caught mostly gills). Anchored up and didn't have to move. Although, I would prefer to get into the crappies, we were limited on time and didn't want to spend it trying to find the good beds. I've had to force myself to get faster at filleting them up. By the time I get home for dinner the kids are going nuts and I usually am limited to about a 30 minute window for prep, fillet and clean up. Always manage to hack a few up. A 5" Rapala blade does the trick for me, but I'd like to try out an electric sometime, never have.
